Each month I join four blogging friends to host the Wellness Reimagined link up. This month I discovered a 30 day yoga challenge, a new delicious recipe to try and putting the focus on eye care.
So many good reminders here Sue. I had developed a daily yoga habit which made such a difference to my body but then I just sort of stopped! Why do we do this? Anyhow I will be getting back to it now after your reminder.
I’ve had some eye issues this last couple of weeks - flashes at the side of my vision which the optician says are due to shrinkage of the jelly stuff in the eye. This is harmless usually but needs to be monitored in case it tears the retina in the process so I endorse your recommendation for everyone to get their eyes regularly checked!
I’m like you Janine. I went through a ‘yoga’ phase and then is was only sporadic. Doing the 30 days I felt so much better and my flexibility and strength certainly improved. I’m going to continue and even if some days are only 10 minutes it is keeping the habit. I hope you eyes are okay? I have a shorter optic nerve in one eye so they redid the peripheral test as my Right eye didn’t score too well. After the second test it was much better so they are just going to monitor it. x
Yes hopefully all ok with my eye but will need monitoring, like yours, for a while. I’m just really glad I didn’t just ignore it and hope it would go away. Glad your condition is under control.
A great reminder re vision checks, Sue. I get mine done every 2 years, but will push it up to every year after 60. My Nan had glaucoma so it’s something I keep an eye on (no pun intended.).
So many things we have to put on the list as we age, Jo. However, the alternative is worse. At the moment I'm all good but I know cataract surgery is on the horizon in the next couple of years. x
that comes from simply showing up for myself....I need to show up for myself more. These words really spoke to me.
#1 preventative measure against macular degneration is sunglasses. Such an easy thing to do but so many people don't. I am very conscious of vision issues as both my parents are/were blind and my sister has glaucoma and my brother has both wet and dry macular degeneration.
Thanks for the tip about eye issues Bernie. Dad had dry macular & it made his last few years very hard. I get eye checks regularly & since my cataract surgery in 2020 cannot be outside for long without sunglasses. Here’s to us & hopefully prevention! X
A great tip, Bernie. I have dry eyes although nothing serious but wearing sunglasses helps. I'm in the line for cataract surgery in a couple of years. Unfortunately, my parents died too long ago to know what their vision issues were. x
This post is filled with such great gems, Sue. I wholeheartedly agree that what started as a way of keeping each other accountable with our health/wellness goals has developed into a wonderful journey of discovery -- this has definitely been the case for me.
I am delighted to read that you noticed multiple benefits from your 30-day yoga challenge. I've increased my yoga last month as well, and now that it's summer here - Yoga on the Beach has returned, just walking distance from my home. 3x / week. Yoga + Beach + Community - What could be better?
I'm still doing the yoga challenge Donna, although it is more of a habit now. Even 10 minutes if I don't have time for longer makes a difference. Your Yoga on the Beach sounds perfect. x
HI, Sue - I totally agree. Even 10 minutes of yoga makes such a difference. Richard and I go to Yoga on the Beach 3x/week in July and August (or as much as we can). The remainder of the year we do yoga once a week with the same teacher as YOTB but in a church. <3
