Your Weekly Boost: Living Life in Full Bloom #9 🌸
If Not Now, When? Why you need to start living life in full bloom today
Happy Monday!
Are you ready for Your Weekly Boost? We are home again after enjoying our cruise to Sydney. It was so lovely catching up with family and seeing the sights where I grew up.
This trip is one of four—yes, four—that we have planned for this year. Usually, I’ve been grateful to have at least one major holiday a year. We started 2025 with a cruise and had already booked a five-week trip to the UK and Norway in August/September.
That was meant to be it for travelling in 2025, but a couple of events changed our minds.
First, I interviewed the incredible Deb Krier, a woman who has battled four types of cancer and refuses to let it stop her. I’ve included her podcast interview below—if you need a dose of positivity in the face of adversity, Deb is your woman! Take a listen and tell me you aren’t inspired.
Then, a friend of ours—who is quite fit and healthy—was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic melanoma. Without treatment, he may have just 8–9 months, but if immunotherapy is successful, he could have another 8–9 years.
I lost my mum at 63, my dad at 66, and my brother at 65—all to cancer. That has been a huge motivation for me to do everything I can to stay healthy and happy, but of course, there are no guarantees.
With our friend now facing his mortality and my conversation with Deb fresh in my mind, I feel more determined than ever to live fully every day. And for us, that includes taking every opportunity to travel.
Mike and I have always wanted to visit Norfolk Island but never made it happen. Then, at our January Probus meeting, we walked in and saw a huge sign: "Norfolk Island Trip!"
We looked at each other and thought, "Could we? Should we?" The trip would take place just one week after we returned from our five-week UK adventure. "Are we being greedy to go to N.I.? Can we really afford it?"
That afternoon, we sat down to discuss it—and in the end, we couldn’t come up with enough reasons not to go.
At almost 68 and 76, we know life won’t last forever. So we decided to jump at the chance with the attitude:
"If not now, when?"
What are you waiting for?
We often find ourselves waiting—waiting for the right time, the right moment, the perfect conditions. But what if we stopped waiting and simply started?
Life isn’t measured by how long we wait but by the moments we seize. If not now, when?
Embracing the Power of Now
It's easy to let dreams, goals, and experiences slip into the "someday" category. But someday isn’t on the calendar. Whether it’s taking that trip, learning a new skill, or prioritizing your health and well-being, today is the day to start. The beauty of blooming at any age is knowing that growth is always possible.
Small Steps, Big Changes
You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. Start small—say yes to new opportunities, take a walk in nature, sign up for that class you’ve been eyeing. Every step forward is a step toward the life you want to live.
Prioritizing What Matters
Living life in full bloom means making intentional choices. What lights you up? What brings you joy? Focus on the things that nourish your mind, body, and soul. It’s never too late to redefine what happiness and success mean to you.
